The Game Used Jersey / Relic Dilemma!

For years now collectors have been ripping boxes of wax looking for those “hits”. As many of you know the hits are typically autographs and different variations of game used jersey or bat pieces. Over the past couple of years those swatches have started getting a bit annoying. But recently, with the release of 2009 Topps Tribute, the nuisance factor got turned up alot higher.
It seems that Topps now is saying that certain old relics that appeared on a supposed Babe Ruth bat card are actually not pieces of a Babe Ruth game used bat but instead pieces from the seats that were in the stadium where Ruth played. Imagine being a buyer on ebay of one of these cards that command a pretty penny and learning that you just purchased a piece of a seat?

The colored piece of wood above is not Ruth’s Bat, its a seat!

So the bigger questions now is are all of those tiny pieces of jerseys and bats, really authentic game used swatches?? You can see the article that I took this from here from the Beckett Blog.
