2010 Topps Chicle Is Live!

April 28, 2010

I don’t know if I was actually the first one to put some of this product on the bay, but I was one of the very first. Still in the process of getting through the cases. I will be chiming in with perspectives over the next couple of days.
So far, as I expected, I really like this product! On card autographs just rule! They look better, and you know the player actually held the card and signed it. The only downside so far about the autographs is that alot of the auto checklist is the same rookie roster that we’ve seen in Series 1, Heritage and Finest. There are some pleasant surprises however. I was glad to see Pablo Sandoval on the auto checklist. I know Ryan Howard is on the checklist as well as Carl Yasztremski, Colby Rasmus, Dustin Pedroia, Evan Longoria, Gordon Beckham, Stan Musial, Tommy Hanson, and a few other notables. Another plus on the autographs is that they all have parrallels. There are the “National Chicle” backs #d /199, the “Bazooka” backs #d /99 and the “topps” backs #d /99.
I know people have complained about game used relics…however this time Topps stepped it up a bit. Same theory as with the autos, there are different levels of parrallels, but this time Topps also went out and got some quality vintage player relics. Whitey Ford, Thurman Munson, Nolan Ryan, Ozzie Smith, Pee Wee Reese, Phil Rizutto and Eddie Murray just to name a few.
Another thing I like about this set is that the box toppers aren’t that bad. If you are one of those out there that like to resell your top loaders un-opened, be warned. There are artist proof box loaders included. I pulled two of them in my first case…something to think about if you are looking to throw them aside!
As I mentioned, artist proofs are included in this set not only in the box loader inserts but also for every card. Every base card has 10 copies of the original artists proof inserted. Another big pull if are lucky enough to get one!
Below are some scans of the first 6 boxes I cracked…many more still to come!

2010 Topps Pro Debut Is Live!

March 31, 2010

Today Topps launched their first official Minor League product – “2010 Topps Pro Debut”. Sales of singles have already hit ebay.

I opted not to open this stuff as I was personally skeptical about this product as it looked very similar in nature to Bowman Draft. Plus, there were way too many names on the checklist that I had never heard before.
But there are alot of people that did bust it. Share your thoughts on the product – what did you like? What were your dislikes? Money maker or bust?
Here are links to some listings already up on ebay:

February 24, 2010

Hey everyone, I know its been a while since I have posted an entry! I’ve been making an all out effort in not having to give up the hobby that I love for the sake of family life, which means I have been juggling the two and the price that was paid was blogging a little less! With that being said, I’ve cleared my calendar for the next few days as I will be several cases of Topps Heritage and Opening Day. Check back over the course of today and the next couple of days to view the hits!

– Part of my success is my ability to keep the ball out of the air…you guessed it, not a HR hitter! – HE IS CONSIDERED A GROUND BALL PITCHER
– Once I made it to the bigs it was the first time I ever played ball in a state other than my home state! WEBB PLAYED HS BALL AND COLLEGE BALL IN KENTUCKY
– A pair of fives didn’t work for me so I had to ditch them, thankfully ‘grace’ spared me! WEBB ORIGINAL BIG LEAGUE NUMBER WAS 55 UNTIL MARK GRACE LEFT THE TEAM AND HE TOOK #17
– Since 2005 I have actually led the majors in a particular category. – INNINGS PITCHED
– Back in my home state, they actually named a highway after me!! IN KENTUCKY

Its Wednesday, and as some of you might have come to expect that means its a WOW Wednesday (Win On Wednesdays) here at Extra Innings!

How to win? I will start by giving clues periodically. First person to figure out the active player I am describing wins the card. Later today and tomorrow if need be, I will add additional clues if no one has guessed the player. To guess, just post your guess in the comments section. If no one has correctly guessed the player by Friday (doubt that will happen!) then I will randomly select someone who has placed their guesses in the comments section as the winner.

IMPORTANT RULES FOR PARTICIPATION AND CONSIDERATION:
Please limit 3 total guesses to each person. If you post a guess you must make sure to leave your name and you email address so that I can contact you if you guess the correct player! If you happen to guess the answer but don’t leave your name or email I cannot declare you the winner and if someone guesses the right answer after you then I will declare them the winner.

Also in the interest of fairness the following readers are ineligible for this week’s contest as they have won a contest in the last 30 days..sorry guys!

2006 Team Fleer – Where Are They??

December 9, 2009

So as I was relocating and settling into my new place there is always that time spent sifting through old items. Of course, I came across one of the very first sets that I completed shortly after I was re-introduced
into card collecting back in 2005 was the 2006 Fleer Set. The 2006 Fleer set was
huge! A whopping 400 cards in the set! Now don’t get me wrong, they weren’t
pretty or anything, they were ehh in design! But it was the idea of tackling a
400 card set that was always fun. True Topps gives you 990 cards, but you have
to wait almost a whole year to put that together once all 3 parts of the release
are out. Fleer used to put all 400 cards out in one set.
Back in 2006 one of the insert sets that was included was a set by the name of
Team Fleer. To date, this was the nicest looking set that I have seen in all of
the cards I have ripped (not including chrome cards). There were only 25 cards
in the set but they were extremely short printed. There is currently only one
card on ebay and I have never been able to find any on sportslots.com. There was
something about this design that was striking. The player poses on the card were
great. They weren’t boring like the base Fleer cards. The design was well done
as they looked pretty much like holograms. When I opened my two cases I remember
only being able to pull one of these cards per case. Since then I think I’ve
been only able to pick up a few of these on ebay. Any idea where all of the Team
Fleer are? Do you have any Team Fleer??

Change Can Be Hard But Its Always Good!

December 9, 2009

I have to apologize to my blog and any followers I might have had. I pretty much disappeared without a trace or an explanation. Three of A Kind Cards didn’t disappear, we are still in business. But there was lot going on with me personally. I was fortunate enough to move out of our cramped apartment and with my family moving, so did my business! There was alot of change and I was actually without internet for a short while. In short, it took some time to get settled in…but now I have and now I am back updating this blog!
Yes there was change and it took me a while to adapt to it. But now that I have, I know that we will be back bigger and stronger than ever. I look forward to getting back to bringing my readers as much information about the hobby as I possible can. Whether its release info, case breaks, or product reviews…whatever. If its baseball or baseball card related, I plan on bringing it to you…whether you like it or not..LOL
Apologies again for disappearing, promise it won’t happen again! Now get ready to enjoy some more babbling from me on the thing we all love…BASEBALL!

So here we go, where we’ll end up no one knows!

February 19, 2009

Well it took me a while but I am finally off and
blogging!
Some background on who I am. My name is Cesar and as you can tell from the title of the blog, I am a baseball fanatic! Its not limited to any aspect of baseball…its everything about it. Whether its going to games, preseason ball, going to autograph signings, or just random articles about baseball – I love it!
I will say that I have a very soft spot for baseball cards. So much so that I have started my own online business on ebay -> Three Of A Kind Cards. I won’t lie, this blog is meant to complement that, but by all means this blog won’t be limited to baseball cards. I still intend it to be about baseball and how much it impacts my life as well as the life of America in general!
I’ll apologize now if I tend to change the title of this blog around…I’m still trying to get a feel for it!
Thanks to those who stop by and feel free to drop any comments!
